Water Softener Care
A water softener is essential in Minnesota and Wisconsin, where hard water is prevalent. Minnesota ranks among the top five states with the hardest water. The primary function of a water softener is to remove calcium and magnesium, extending the lifespan of appliances, particularly water heaters, other appliances and preventing hard water buildup and staining on plumbing fixtures and dishes. Soft water also improves the feel of hair and skin.
The only required maintenance is adding salt to the brine tank. Fill the tank to approximately half-full; slightly over is acceptable, but avoid filling it to the very top. Otherwise, salt bridges may occur where the salt solidifies and does not move down. When the salt level reaches about one-quarter full, add one or two 40-pound bags, or a few 25-pound bags of salt. We provide the first bag at installation. We recommend Morton Clean & Protect Pellets, available at retailers like Home Depot, Cub, Target, Walmart, Fleet Farm, Sam's Club, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware.
We adjust all settings during installation, so no further adjustments are needed (see instructions below). For questions or concerns regarding your water treatment system, please call us at 651-730-9700.
